Not sure if I am coming home

Tuesday April 6, 2010

I sit here really not sure what to say, or where to begin. The last few days have been extremely hard for me, the weather has been rain all weekend so we were stuck in for most of the days, and this apartment is not really big enough for 4 people. Laura is really struggling with being here, and adjusting to having a new brother in such a small living place. Yesterday Martin took the children to the park and I had a little me time for the first time in 8 weeks. I joined them later to watch Ethan on the swing and it was a wonderful warm day out.

Today we went on a bigger adventure; we took the subway to Independence Square, Ethan was not sure what to make of the noise of the subway and started to cry, but when Martin told him train in Ukrainian he settled. It was a strange feeling to be back on the main street again this time with no snow in sight, the first thing we did was buy an ice cream from a stand that had been closed before, we then walked up to the square were there was a big Easter egg in a basket on the square, and the ice rink we had skated on was all gone. We went shopping at Mother Care and got Ethan an airplane that the pilot talks in an English accent I just could not resist it. Ethan is more interested in putting the people in his mouth. We then walked past our old apartment, through the park we had first gone to when arriving here, and then to St. Andrews decent to buy Laura her musical instrument called a Bandura, she was so excited to get this and her little hands were rubbing her nose very fast. We had planned to go back to the shopping mall called Dream Town, but it was too late and we decided to head back to the subway for home.

Ok now to the bad news, we got a phone call from our facilitator Natasha, she told us that Ethan’s passport has not been done and has not even been printed yet. We are not sure if it is going to be done by the weekend. On another note I called the Canadian Embassy here in Kiev and they have not yet received a letter from the Canadian Ministry called a Letter of no Objection and without these 2 things we cannot bring Ethan home. So we have plan B all ready to go and that is Martin and Laura will be flying home on Saturday no matter what. Laura as you all know needs to get home and really should get back to school, 2months away is too long, and Martin needs to get over jet lag so he can go back to work and keep this new family of his from going broke. LoL. I will then come home with Ethan once we have his paperwork. I am really hoping that plan B does not have to happen and we are all on the flight this Saturday. I will keep you posted.

Ethan is doing very well with his eating; every morning is oatmeal a whole package and he cries when he is done. Tonight I made Sheppard pie and he decided to try Martins which at first he started with the potatoes then he tried the meat and he liked it even with the lumps, so we are really happy about this. The little man seems to have a bottomless pit. For a skinny fella.
Nothing else to say at this time except “can everyone keep their fingers crossed for us. Please!”

Love to all

Jenny, Martin, Laura and Ethan.

  1. I'm going to do more than cross my fingers. Everyone on this end wants you home, almost as much as you want to be here.
I can only hope that you know how much we miss you all and, even though life has continued while you've been gone, it has been so far from normal.
    We want you back.
    We miss you.
And we love you with all our hearts.
