Great news

Thursday March 25, 2010

The day started off very stressful as have the rest of the week, with not knowing about court. What you need to understand is that in some regions people can wait for court for weeks and we were very concerned that this would happen to us, also our plane tickets were scheduled for tomorrow and we have to rebook our flights which cost us to do, so we only want to do this once. The court issue for us is that they decided at the beginning of the year that they have to have 2 jurors present to have court and they did not have anyone in place to do this. Talk about stress knowing that we will only be in court 15 -20 mins and we need 2 people to be there and this is what is holding us up. They had shut court down until they could get people in place to do this. OK there is more to tell but we finally received the call from Natasha:
WE HAVE COURT ON MONDAY AT 4PM
As you can tell we are excited about this, as once we have court we can get Ethan out of the orphanage and back to Kyiv. Now back to the morning, I phoned KLM to rebook the flights and they said I had till 5:30 to do so, as I wanted to wait till I found out if we would get court. Then it was off to see Ethan, but first we had to return a pair of shoes we had got for him that where too small. This became an adventure in itself. First getting them to understand that I wanted to return them, but did not want another pair, so with some hand signals I got my point across. Then the paper work that she had to fill out was long and involved me having to show my passport and her trying to read English for the information. After 20mins of waiting I finally got my money back. Girls at work we have nothing to complain about when it comes to returns.
Yet again we got to take Ethan outside this really helps to break the day, and he seems really excited about going out even though he is bundled up like Randy off of a Christmas Story or the Michelin man for those who don’t know the movie. Then it was time for yogurt once inside with a new flavour and this went over well again. I got out the favourite thing bubbles which he really enjoys popping them. I said to Martin how I would like to go blow bubbles for the children in his room, and got up the nerve to ask the workers, and to my surprise they agreed. Talk about bring tears and smile to my face when the children saw those bubbles in the air, they got so excited and the squeals of delight were wonderful. I did this for at least 20 minutes, until I felt light headed from doing it so much, but it was so worth the joy these children got from it. Laura, Martin and Ethan came in to join me, and Laura really had her eyes opened to what it means to be a child in an orphanage with only 2 rooms to live in, one for playing and eating and the other for sleeping along with everyone else. We then went back to the cloak room for a little more family time; it was then time for Ethan to eat. Seeing as I had seen the room he plays in I wanted to now see where he slept, so when our time was done I asked if I could lay him down. This is all done with hand gestures keep in mind. They again agreed and I laid him down in his crib. The worker then pointed out the rail on the crib and it had chew marks on it, she informed me that my son had done this. We are talking big chunks like you would see on a corn on the cob. It is wood and he has just chewed it away. We were completely shocked at this. It was then time for home.
I then contacted KLM again seeing as now we know when court is and rebooked our flights Drum roll please........for April 10. So the stress now changes from worrying about court date to will the paperwork and passport be done in time, but for now we are just happy to have court and the thought that our son will soon be with us, and we then can get back to Kiev were there are things and places to go. Please everyone keep all fingers and toes crossed for us.
Love to all

Jenny, Martin, Laura and Ethan
